The Micromax Canvas A116 HD is the fastest selling device launched in the country with the company selling 25 devices per minute since its launch last week. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos is the latest edition on the hugely successful Galaxy series. Both the phablets offer dual SIM facility which is in huge demand in the country.

The Korean company Samsung is the biggest Android smartphone manufacturer in the world, while Micromax is a leading Indian brand that deals in low to mid range mobile device offerings. Both the phablets run on the Android 4.1 JellyBean operating system which is the latest platform that new smartphones are built on. We have compared the two hot selling phablets from the respective companies to identify the better device to own.

Design & Display

Both phones have similar design in terms of the body design. However, the Galaxy Grand Duos 19082 weighs slightly heavier than the Micromax A116 Canvas HD by 6 grams. The Galaxy Grand Duos is a smaller version of the Galaxy S3.

The Canvas A116 HD has a much better display with a5 inch HD IPS touch screen which produces a brilliant 1280 x 720p HD resolution with 294 pixels per inch. The Galaxy Grand Duos also has a 5 inch screen, only with a TFT LCD Touch Screen offering display resolution of 480×800 and 187 ppi pixel density. The higher pixel density on the Canvas HD offers crisper images which will be great for playing HD games and videos.

The Micromax Canvas HD has a 1.2GHz Quad Core MediaTek Processor with 1GB of RAM. The Grand Duos has a 1.2 GHz Dual-core Processor with 1GB of RAM. The Canvas HD has a more powerful processor and will be great for playing games and for surfing the web. Its high RAM coupled with a quad core processor will make it a really fast device that and will be a great multi tasker. However, Galaxy Grand Duos has the Galaxy S3′s Gesture support feature that is really great for multitasking.

Camera

Both devices have a 8MP rear camera with Digital Zoom,Autofocus and LED Flash. However, while the Canvas HD has a VGA front camera that is good enough for video calling, the Galaxy Grand Duos has a 2MP front camera that can be used to click self portraits. Also, the Galaxy Grand Duos offers better video recording clarity at 1080 pixels as opposed to the Canvas HD’s 720 pixels.

Memory & Battery

The Micromax A116 HD has 4GB internal memory which is expandable up to 32GB via micro SD card. The Galaxy Grand Duos doubles up with a higher 8GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 64 GB. If your device doubles up as your music and video player and gaming device, you can never have enough memory. Also, a lot of apps you download need hog on the internal storage. So a higher internal memory space is always welcome.

Both devices are powered by a 2100 mAh battery.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos 19082 is a classic Samsung smartphone and Micromax is breaking new boundaries with the A116 Canvas HD. The biggest decisive point between the two phablets is their price. The Canvas A116 HD is priced way lower than the Galaxy Grand Duos even though it offers much better features than the Samsung device.

However, Samsung devices are much better in terms of quality and performance, which is the greatest reason behind their success. On the other hand, Micromax is known for its budget phones that offer great features though not the Samsung performance standards. So, if you are willing to spend a little extra, the Galaxy Grand Duos is a great bet. However, if you are looking for great features in an inexpensive device, the Canvas A116 HD is also a good deal.

    Galaxy Grand internal memory is only 4GB but in documents only 8GB.
    My Galaxy Grand is hang up frequently & can be reset only by removing battery.
    No solution given by Samsung.
